A Brief History of Light for Living. Light for Living began as a writing ministry of Pastor Gary Click while pastoring the Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton, IN. His articles were published in the local newspaper, The Daily Clintonian. They were also distributed to email subscribers and several were posted on this website. Shortly after assuming the pastorate of the Fremont Baptist Temple, Fremont, OH, he was approached by Pastor James Lewis and chief operator, Brian Benedict about providing a two thirty-minute Radio Programs for the weekend. (WHVT 90.5 fm) At this point, Pastor Click's writing ministry transformed into a radio ministry. Due to time constrains, the weekly devotional gave way to the radio ministry. However, these devotionals are still available online through the Light for Living Archives. Pastor Click is still active in writing bible studies, dramas and devotional articles for other applications. We hope to make those resources available soon. Dealing With Depression Part 1: God's Prescription for Peace A man went to psychiatrist due to a recurring dream. One
night he would dream that he was a wigwam, the next night that he was a tee pee.
He told the doctor that this went on night after night. After listening
carefully to the man’s dilemma the doctor said, “Your problem is obvious.
Your just two tents!” Actually, stress is a factor in everyone’s life. Tipper
Gore once made the statement that millions of Americans were depressed but
didn’t even know it. I’ve heard some pretty ridiculous statements in my
life, but that one is near the top. I would certainly agree that many people
deal with anxiety and sadness on a daily basis. I believe everyone has at
sometime. Of course, for some the problem is more serious than for others. But
anytime I’ve felt depressed, I knew about it. Please do me a favor. If I ever
get depressed and think I’m having a good time, don’t spoil my fun by
telling me! While stress and anxiety are common, the good news is that
God gives us relief. It is not God’s desire that you be burdened down with
worry and fear. Paul encourages with the news that “God hath not given us the
spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
(2 Timothy1:7) Peter follows up with the encouraging words “Casting all
your care upon him; for he careth for you.” (1 Peter 5:7) It is not God’s desire for you to suffer from worry. God
has a better plan. God wants you to have peace of mind and serenity of heart.
Listen to what He says in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the thoughts that I
think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to
give you an expected end.” God’s Word is the
ultimate book on psychiatry. It gives us the answers that we need to have peace
of mind. In the next few articles, I hope to show you God’s Prescription for
Peace through the Scriptures. God has a plan to help the depressed, the anxious,
and the worrier. When we learn His plan and apply it to our lives we will be
able to join Paul in saying, “We are troubled on every side, yet not
distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken;
cast down, but not destroyed.” (2 Corinthians 4:8,9) When we follow His plan, we will learn that our true happiness is not dependent upon the circumstances around us, but rather the strength of the One who dwells within us. “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (1 John 4:4) Dealing With Depression Part 2- You're Not Alone You are the |
