Light for Living began as a writing
ministry of Pastor Gary Click while pastoring the Calvary Baptist Church in
Clinton, IN. His articles were published in the local newspaper, The Daily
Clintonian. They were also distributed to email subscribers and several were
posted on this website.
Shortly after
assuming the pastorate of the Fremont Baptist Temple, Fremont, OH, he was
approached by Pastor James Lewis and chief operator, Brian Benedict about
providing a two thirty-minute Radio Programs for the weekend. (WHVT
90.5 fm) At this point, Pastor Click's writing ministry transformed into a
radio ministry.
Due to time constrains, the
weekly devotional gave way to the radio ministry. However, these devotionals are
still available online through the Light for Living Archives.
Pastor
Click is still active in writing bible studies, dramas and devotional articles
for other applications. We hope to make those resources available soon.
What in the world does "hallowed" mean? We commonly recite the Lord's Prayer without any thought as to what it might mean. We gloss over difficult words without a second thought. We just think that if it is a big word that we don't understand we ought to just leave it alone. Have you ever considered the possibility that God may have placed these words in the Scriptures to stir our curiosity? Perhaps God uses words such as "hallowed" so that we will stop for a moment and inquire about what He is trying to say to us. When you encounter a difficult word in your bible reading, you ought to pause for a moment and reflect. Use a bible dictionary and look up that word and its meaning. Then meditate on that thought for a while. You will be amazed at how much the Holy Spirit can teach you through difficult words.
Hallowed. The word simply means holy, sacred, set apart, pure, consecrated or venerated. It means that there are no names like His name. I have an unusual name, Click. It's not very common, but I have met others with this name. I commonly get called Glick. Actually, Click came from Glick. Before that it was Gluck. I don't even want to think of what was before that! As rare as my name is, it is not like His name. His name is holy. There is no other name that compares with his name.
I must agree with the angels we listened to last week. Do you remember what they proclaimed before the throne of God. "Holy, holy, holy." (See Isaiah 6:3 and Revelation 4:8). If anyone ought to know, it would be those angels before the throne. There is no one that compares with Him. His name is holy.
But you ask, "What is His name?" Moses wanted to know as well. "And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you." Exodus 3:14 The Hebrew word translated as "I Am" is a root of the word translated as Jehovah. "And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them." (Exodus 6:3)
Jehovah is God's personal name. God is a descriptive title such as Pastor or Doctor. But Jehovah is His name. The implication of His name is that He is self-existent. He requires no one or no thing to exist. Without food, water, shelter, oxygen and many other things, you and I could not survive. But Jehovah requires nothing. He is self-existent. The name Jehovah is always used to demonstrate God's personal relationship with man. It is a demonstration of His love towards us. God is set apart and holy because no one could love us as He does. "But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us." (Ephesians 2:4)
Finally, it is important for us to realize that Jehovah has manifested Himself through Jesus Christ. Jesus claimed this name for Himself in John 8:58 when He said, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am."
