A Brief History of Light for
Living.
Light for Living began as a writing
ministry of Pastor Gary Click while pastoring the Calvary Baptist Church in
Clinton, IN. His articles were published in the local newspaper, The Daily
Clintonian. They were also distributed to email subscribers and several were
posted on this website. Shortly after
assuming the pastorate of the Fremont Baptist Temple, Fremont, OH, he was
approached by Pastor James Lewis and chief operator, Brian Benedict about
providing a two thirty-minute Radio Programs for the weekend. (WHVT
90.5 fm) At this point, Pastor Click's writing ministry transformed into a
radio ministry. Due to time constrains, the
weekly devotional gave way to the radio ministry. However, these devotionals are
still available online through the Light for Living Archives. Pastor
Click is still active in writing bible studies, dramas and devotional articles
for other applications. We hope to make those resources available soon. Light for

His Name Says it
All
Imagine
for a moment that the child you were about to name was the Son of God. That is
exactly where Mary and Joseph found themselves. Fortunately, they had divine
direction. While reading the first chapter of the first gospel, you will
encounter three names for the child whose birth we celebrate. Each of them has
special meaning and significance for us to consider today.
"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS:
for he shall save his people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21)
Jesus. The name simply means Savior. The great significance of this name is very
simple to understand. The name, Savior, implies that someone needs to be saved
from something. It infers that that one is unable to rescue himself. Finally, it
addresses the one who is sufficient to meet the need, One Who is able to rescue,
One Who is able to deliver, One Who is able to save.
"Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and
they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with
us." (Matthew 1:23)
Emmanuel. What a beautiful name. It simply means "God with us." Until
this time, only Adam and Eve had known the full significance of Emmanuel. In
addition to the many physical benefits of living in the Garden of Eden, our
first parents enjoyed the daily benefit of God's physical presence. They walked
with Him. They looked upon Him. They spoke with Him. They daily experienced God
in their midst until that fateful day that they gave heed to Satan's lie. From
that point on man had experienced a separation from God. Sin became a barrier
that separated mankind from the daily presence of God.
Now, at last, the prophecy of Isaiah 7:14 was to be fulfilled. Emmanuel was to
be born. God indeed walked again with mankind. He came to offer Himself as a
sacrifice for sin. He came to restore that fellowship. While He walked the
earth, He made this promise, "lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end
of the world." (Matthew 28:20) And again He said, "I will never
leave thee, nor forsake thee." (Hebrews 13:5)
Today, the Christian does enjoy the presence of God. He has promised to be in us
and with us. But I suspect that many are like myself. I am so glad that He is
with me, yet I long to behold His face and look into eyes. The good news is that
one day our desires will be fulfilled. "For now we see through a glass,
darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as
also I am known." Today, we know His presence by faith. But then we
will see Him even as He sees us today.
The other name we find here is actually more of a title than a name. It is
"Christ." Christ is the New Testament equivalent of Messiah, which
means anointed or consecrated. Jesus is God's anointed Savior.
My prayer for you is that you will experience the true meaning found in His
name. The greatest part of Christmas is knowing God's presence by knowing Jesus
Christ as your Savior!
