A Brief History of Light for Living.

Light for Living began as a writing ministry of Pastor Gary Click while pastoring the Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton, IN. His articles were published in the local newspaper, The Daily Clintonian. They were also distributed to email subscribers and several were posted on this website.

Shortly after assuming the pastorate of the Fremont Baptist Temple, Fremont, OH, he was approached by Pastor James Lewis and chief operator, Brian Benedict about providing a two thirty-minute Radio Programs for the weekend. (WHVT 90.5 fm) At this point, Pastor Click's writing ministry transformed into a radio ministry.

Due to time constrains, the weekly devotional gave way to the radio ministry. However, these devotionals are still available online through the Light for Living Archives.

Pastor Click is still active in writing bible studies, dramas and devotional articles for other applications. We hope to make those resources available soon.

God's Grace is Sufficient

Does it ever seem that the world is against you? Have you ever been at that place where you feel like it couldn't get any worse, then it does? Maybe you find yourself questioning God like David did.

"Why standest thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?" (
Psalm 10:1) "I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?" (Psalm 42:9)

As you can see, you are not alone. David had some extremely difficult days. Some have said to me, "Pastor, I know you are not supposed to ask 'Why.'" But that's not true. David asked "why?" There is a difference between asking "why" and accusing God. I believe that it is a very dangerous thing to accuse God, but to simply ask "why" may be the key to finding His will in the midst of your difficult days. Notice David found the answer. Just a few verses down we read:

"Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God." (Psalm 42:11)

David went from questioning God to trusting in God. Nearly these exact words are found in Psalm 42:11 and 43:5. It seems that he learned that his hope was in God even in difficult days. It is easy to praise God when all is going well. The real test of your faith comes when you are thrown into the fiery furnace, cast into the lions den, or flat on your back. Think about what Paul wrote in the midst of his strenuous times.

"We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body." (2 Corinthians 4:8-10)

He learned that real peace and happiness is not dependent upon our circumstances, but instead on the grace of God. Paul suffered from persecutions, oppositions and physical ailments. His eyes, it is believed, were particularly troubling to him. They were likely his thorn in the flesh. Imagine how difficult it must have been for Paul to have been able to heal others but not himself.  We would do well to learn from Paul's example. He asked God repeatedly to remove this thorn, but was content when God's answer was "No."

"For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.  And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong." (2 Corinthians 12:8-10)
