A Brief History of Light for Living.

Light for Living began as a writing ministry of Pastor Gary Click while pastoring the Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton, IN. His articles were published in the local newspaper, The Daily Clintonian. They were also distributed to email subscribers and several were posted on this website.

Shortly after assuming the pastorate of the Fremont Baptist Temple, Fremont, OH, he was approached by Pastor James Lewis and chief operator, Brian Benedict about providing a two thirty-minute Radio Programs for the weekend. (WHVT 90.5 fm) At this point, Pastor Click's writing ministry transformed into a radio ministry.

Due to time constrains, the weekly devotional gave way to the radio ministry. However, these devotionals are still available online through the Light for Living Archives.

Pastor Click is still active in writing bible studies, dramas and devotional articles for other applications. We hope to make those resources available soon.

God Loves the Ungodly

This is difficult for many to comprehend. They cannot fathom that a God who hates sin, rebukes unrighteousness and judges wrongdoing can be a God who loves the ungodly. The world’s concept of love today means that you must accept everything that someone does to love them. If you don’t wholeheartedly accept their wrongdoing, you must be the enemy. But God is a God of love. He loves us in spite of our sin.

Romans 5:8 makes this abundantly clear. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

What an amazing truth: God loves the ungodly.

We find a wonderful picture of this in the life of the Old Testament prophet Hosea. What a godly man! He served the Lord with all of his heart. But God directed him to love a young woman who had many problems. I will not call her a young lady because she was not. There was nothing ladylike about her. She was a harlot. She sold her body to other men, even as she was married to Hosea. Oh, his heart was broken, but he loved her anyway. This is the kind of love God has towards us. He loves us even though we don’t deserve it. He loves us not because of who we are but in spite of who we are.

Isn’t amazing that we have a God who loves even the ungodly? We have a God who loves the drug addict and the drunkard. There is a God that loves the thief and the crook. God loves even those that do not love Him. God’s love, as we see, was demonstrated through His Son, Jesus Christ Who gave His life on the cross. Jesus loves the unlovely. He loves those who hate Him. On the cross He cried out, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” He loves the atheist who denies Him. He loves the Muslim and the Mormon that blaspheme Him.

His love is amazing, but His love will not save an unwilling soul. Often throughout the Scriptures, the church, those who have accepted Christ, are referred to as the bride of Christ. Imagine a handsome young man who casts all of his love on the girl of his dreams. He is wealthy, powerful, loving and kind. She has not much to offer. She comes from a poor home. Her family is rough and mean. She’s not very attractive, has poor manners and even wonders why he would love her. Still he does. He even proposes marriage on bended knee. She has but to accept and leave the world of poverty and despair. All that He has will be hers and she will be ravished in his love forever more. Its difficult to imagine her turning away his love and affection.

So too, it is difficult to comprehend why so many would reject the love of Christ. They reject Christ, then blame Him for denying them the benefits of the salvation they rejected. They do not want Christ but the want heaven. They reject Christ but expect to escape hell. Christ offers us the riches of heaven and the escape from hell. We have a choice. We may accept His proposal or except the consequences of life without Him. The choice is ours. Will you accept Him?
