A Brief History of Light for Living.

Light for Living began as a writing ministry of Pastor Gary Click while pastoring the Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton, IN. His articles were published in the local newspaper, The Daily Clintonian. They were also distributed to email subscribers and several were posted on this website.

Shortly after assuming the pastorate of the Fremont Baptist Temple, Fremont, OH, he was approached by Pastor James Lewis and chief operator, Brian Benedict about providing a two thirty-minute Radio Programs for the weekend. (WHVT 90.5 fm) At this point, Pastor Click's writing ministry transformed into a radio ministry.

Due to time constrains, the weekly devotional gave way to the radio ministry. However, these devotionals are still available online through the Light for Living Archives.

Pastor Click is still active in writing bible studies, dramas and devotional articles for other applications. We hope to make those resources available soon.

Frankenstein and the Bible

Not long ago I sat down with my boys to watch the classic horror story, Frankenstein. During the introduction to the movie, I was surprised to hear the host tell of its origin. I found it hard to believe that the story originated in the mind of a proper young lady named Mary Shelly in 1817. I was intrigued to learned that she had written it as an allegory to demonstrate the folly of man trying to play God.

As an introduction to her story she wrote, "Frightful must it be; for supremely frightful would be the effect of any human endeavour to mock the stupendous mechanism of the Creator of the world."

Satan would have done well to have read Frankenstein and learned a lesson. You see that was his demise. He attempted to exalt himself above God.

"How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High." Isaiah 14:12-14.

One does not have to be Victor Frankenstein or even Lucifer to fall into this trap. Actually, many people reading this article have at one time or another attempted to lift themselves above God. How do we do this? By living our lives independent of God.

Every day men and women live life without consulting God. They take offense at His Word and shun its teachings. The man that says, "I don't need God," has lifted himself to the level of God. He considers his ways superior to God's ways. He may not realize it now, but he has created a monster.

One day, every man will have to face this monster he has created. Listen to what else Shelley had to say about the man that plays God. "His success would terrify the artist; he would rush away from his odious handywork, horror-stricken. He would hope that, left to itself, the slight spark of life which he had communicated would fade; that this thing, which had received such imperfect animation, would subside into dead matter; and he might sleep in the belief that the silence of the grave would quench for ever the transient existence of the hideous corpse which he had looked upon as the cradle of life. He sleeps; but he is awakened; he opens his eyes; behold the horrid thing stands at his bedside, opening his curtains, and looking on him with yellow, watery, but speculative eyes."

Are you playing God? Are you living your life independent of the true God? If so, now would be a good time to reconsider. Why don't you yield yourself to Him today, before your monster gets out of control?

"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." Galatians 6:7.
