A Brief History of Light for Living.

Light for Living began as a writing ministry of Pastor Gary Click while pastoring the Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton, IN. His articles were published in the local newspaper, The Daily Clintonian. They were also distributed to email subscribers and several were posted on this website.

Shortly after assuming the pastorate of the Fremont Baptist Temple, Fremont, OH, he was approached by Pastor James Lewis and chief operator, Brian Benedict about providing a two thirty-minute Radio Programs for the weekend. (WHVT 90.5 fm) At this point, Pastor Click's writing ministry transformed into a radio ministry.

Due to time constrains, the weekly devotional gave way to the radio ministry. However, these devotionals are still available online through the Light for Living Archives.

Pastor Click is still active in writing bible studies, dramas and devotional articles for other applications. We hope to make those resources available soon.

The Impact of a Godly Father

"And Joseph made ready his chariot and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen, and presented himself unto him; and he fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while." Genesis 46:29

Joseph was a grown man by now. The last time he had seen his father, he was only a child. Many things had taken place since then. Joseph’s brothers had sold him into slavery. They lied to their father, telling him that he had been consumed by a wild beast. After years of slavery Joseph was imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. Through God’s divine providence Joseph was delivered out of prison and exalted to the highest position in Egypt aside from Pharaoh.

Many years had passed. Joseph never imagined that God would reunite him with his father. Although Israel had accepted the fact that Joseph was dead, he had never recovered from it. Joseph was his life. Not a day went by that he did not think of Joseph. Yet as far as he knew, he would never see Joseph again in this life.

What a wonderful day it was when this father and son reunited against all odds. I take special note of the fact that Joseph fell on his father’s neck and wept a good while. I ask myself the question: "Why did Joseph love his father so much?"

We know from the Scriptures that Joseph was loved greatly by his father. Israel took time for Joseph and even made a special coat of many colors with his own hands and gave it to Joseph. I believe that you will find that the key ingredient in the relationship between Joseph and Israel, his father, is time. He gave Joseph his time when he was growing up.

Time is the most necessary ingredient in relationships between fathers and their children today. There are many things that can rob our children of our time. Work, hobbies, friends, and other interests are among the many culprits. Often fathers are tempted to think that they can make up for lost time by providing luxuries for their children. As long as they have the nicest clothes, the neatest toys, newest computers we think everything is fine. But as long as we live that life we are living in a dream world that is likely to turn into a nightmare.

FATHERS, your children need your time! Honestly, they need it most when you have the least of it. It is definitely a sacrifice on your part. You have issues that demand your attention. You are a busy man. You come home from work tired. You just don’t seem to have the time or energy. But you will someday. Unfortunately, the day you find time for them, they may be busy themselves.

Make that investment today. It may cost you a little something. You may not bring home that overtime check. You may have to say "no" to other opportunities. But you will reap the benefits. Your children you be stronger, your relationship will be deeper, and you joy will be fuller. There is no greater way to say "I love you" to your children than to give them your time.

Dad, give your children the greatest gift they could ever have – You!
