A Brief History of Light for Living. Light for Living began as a writing ministry of Pastor Gary Click while pastoring the Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton, IN. His articles were published in the local newspaper, The Daily Clintonian. They were also distributed to email subscribers and several were posted on this website. Shortly after assuming the pastorate of the Fremont Baptist Temple, Fremont, OH, he was approached by Pastor James Lewis and chief operator, Brian Benedict about providing a two thirty-minute Radio Programs for the weekend. (WHVT 90.5 fm) At this point, Pastor Click's writing ministry transformed into a radio ministry. Due to time constrains, the weekly devotional gave way to the radio ministry. However, these devotionals are still available online through the Light for Living Archives. Pastor Click is still active in writing bible studies, dramas and devotional articles for other applications. We hope to make those resources available soon. Click here to learn more about becoming a Christian. Listen to the "Light for Living" broadcast live on whvtfm.com Saturdays and Sundays at 4:00 pm.

Fatherhood This last Wednesday at 3:58 a.m., I once again became a
father of a beautiful baby boy, Micah. This is certainly the greatest Father’s
Day present I could receive. Sitting down to write this devotional, I was
reminded of the responsibility of Fatherhood. “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of
the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are
children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they
shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate”.
Psalm 127:3-5 As a warrior David knew something
about archery. In this Psalm he
declares “ As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are
children of the youth.” There
are three very simple lessons that even the most unskilled archer can learn from
David’s counsel. Every one knows that before you can shoot an arrow, you must aim at a
target. What a valuable lesson for
us parents. Do you have goals for
your children? You should.
To raise our children without a specific purpose is like shooting an
arrow blindly into the air. Develop
a vision for the future of your children. This
does not mean that you should plan every minute detail of the rest of their
lives. That would be both
impossible and impractical. Instead,
aim at goals of character and godliness. Determine
from God’s Word what kind of person your child should be. Aim for goals like honesty, purity, concern for others, and a
Christ-like attitude. Teach them
biblical principles that will guide them in all areas of life. An archer must also pull back on the string giving the arrow the strength
and momentum it needs to reach the target.
Dad’s, it is not enough for us to tell
our children what is right. We
must also equip them to do right.
We do this through our example. It
is important for us to model the attributes necessary for a successful, godly
life. In addition to our example, we need to equip and empower them with other
influences. I can think of no
better resources than God’s Word and God’s house. Children should be taught
the Scriptures and raised in the house of the Lord. I’ve met many who seem to have a desire to do right in their lives but
they seem to lack the strength and determination. It is of prime importance for us as fathers to empower our
children to succeed. In a growing
and loving church, your children will find friends who will be there for them.
They will find inspiration and wisdom to lead them through the
temptations and trials that we all face. Never
forget the importance of empowering our children to succeed. Once you’ve taken aim, and cocked the bow, all that’s left to do is to
let go. That’s the hardest part.
However, when we have taken proper aim, given them the strength and
momentum to reach the target, we must have the confidence that God will do His
part. The satisfaction that we gain
when the arrow strikes the bull’s ey is matchless.
But it can’t be realized until we let go.
Take aim. Give strength.
Let go.
