A Brief History of Light for Living.

Light for Living began as a writing ministry of Pastor Gary Click while pastoring the Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton, IN. His articles were published in the local newspaper, The Daily Clintonian. They were also distributed to email subscribers and several were posted on this website.

Shortly after assuming the pastorate of the Fremont Baptist Temple, Fremont, OH, he was approached by Pastor James Lewis and chief operator, Brian Benedict about providing a two thirty-minute Radio Programs for the weekend. (WHVT 90.5 fm) At this point, Pastor Click's writing ministry transformed into a radio ministry.

Due to time constrains, the weekly devotional gave way to the radio ministry. However, these devotionals are still available online through the Light for Living Archives.

Pastor Click is still active in writing bible studies, dramas and devotional articles for other applications. We hope to make those resources available soon.

Eyes that Cannot See

The picture we find in Luke 24:13-35 is one that can hardly be ignored. Cleopas and his traveling companion are walking to Emmaus morning the crucifixion three days after. His wife and others had seemingly brought "idle tales" of Jesus raising from the day. Along comes a stranger and walks beside them and even stops to dine with them. His voice should have been familiar. The way He walked and talked should have indicated Who He was. If they would have looked into His eyes there would have been no doubt. This was the resurrected Lord! Yet He went undetected. Notice verse 16, "but their eyes were holden that they should not know him."

This passage is a dynamic illustration of how close the Lord without our notice. How often are your eyes holden so that you cannot know him? I see in this passage three reasons why they likely could not recognize their Lord.

The first reason they could not see Him is because they were focused on their Circumstances rather than their Savior. In verse 17, Jesus asked them why they were sad. They went on to give Him the details of how their hopes had been dashed. They gave the details of how they thought that Jesus was the One, but now their dreams had been disappointed. Each of us can loose sight of the Savior, when we focus on the pitfalls of life. The obstacles loom large over our heads and we see no end. In Matthew 14 we see how Peter's faith dwindled when he took his eyes off of Jesus and focused on the circumstances around him. Keep this truth in mind: Peace does not depend on what is around us but on Who is within us.

Their second hindrance was a lack of faith. Notice in verse 21 the words "trusted" and "had been." They are speaking in the past tense. We tend to have faith so long as everything runs smoothly and our way. That is not faith at all. We must remember God is not obligated to use our methods or our timetable. Read Isaiah 55:8,9. His ways are infinitely above ours. In Hebrews 11:6 you will learn that without faith it is IMPOSSIBLE to please God. Not simply unlikely, but impossible. If you desire to see God, you must live by FAITH!

Finally, they were handicapped by their limited knowledge, use of or belief in the Scriptures. Read verses 25 and 27.  Only by immersing ourselves in the Word of God do we even begin to think like God and understand God. Apart from the Scriptures there is absolutely no hope of having the mind of Christ. If they had known the OT Scriptures or even paid close attention as Jesus prophesied of these events, they would have been better prepared. You too will fail to see Jesus, if you fail to know and believe His Word.  Conversely, the more your study the Scriptures, the more you recognize His presence in your daily life.

These three things hinder us from seeing God. Focusing on Circumstances rather that the Savior. Failures in Faith. Forgetting His Word. Don't be hindered.
