A Brief History of Light for Living.

Light for Living began as a writing ministry of Pastor Gary Click while pastoring the Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton, IN. His articles were published in the local newspaper, The Daily Clintonian. They were also distributed to email subscribers and several were posted on this website.

Shortly after assuming the pastorate of the Fremont Baptist Temple, Fremont, OH, he was approached by Pastor James Lewis and chief operator, Brian Benedict about providing a two thirty-minute Radio Programs for the weekend. (WHVT 90.5 fm) At this point, Pastor Click's writing ministry transformed into a radio ministry.

Due to time constrains, the weekly devotional gave way to the radio ministry. However, these devotionals are still available online through the Light for Living Archives.

Pastor Click is still active in writing bible studies, dramas and devotional articles for other applications. We hope to make those resources available soon.

Dealing With Depression

Part 2: You're Not Alone

Dealing With Depression Part 1- God's Prescription for Peace

Have you ever felt alone? Did you find comfort when you realize that someone else has already walked in your shoes? My aunt and uncle are an example of how God can use willing people to comfort those who sorrow. While serving as missionaries in the Philippines, their nine-year old daughter suffered a fatal accident and went home to be with the Lord. This was a heart-breaking event. However, God has allowed them to bring comfort to the hearts of many who experience similar losses. My uncle has even written a short book entitled, “Gone but not Forgotten” to help those who grieve. They have a unique ability to comfort others because they have been there personally.

When you, as a Christian, experience periods of grief or depression its good to know that you are not alone. Satan wants us to feel isolated. He wants us to believe that no one else has it as bad as we do. I remember in that Elijah felt that way in 1 Kings 19 when he said, “I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.” But the Lord told him that he was not alone and in fact there were 7,000 others who stood firm in the face of opposition. Whatever trial you are going through, you need to know: You Are Not Alone!

Do you feel depressed and discouraged? Some of the greatest heroes of the faith felt that way at times. Listen to David in the Psalms. “My heart is sore pained within me: and the terrors of death are fallen upon me. Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me. And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest. Lo, then would I wander far off, and remain in the wilderness. Selah. I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.” (Psalm 55:4-8) “My heart is smitten, and withered like grass; so that I forget to eat my bread. By reason of the voice of my groaning my bones cleave to my skin.” (Psalm 102:4,5)

Jeremiah also found himself in great mourning. He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath made me drunken with wormwood. He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones, he hath covered me with ashes. And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace: I forgat prosperity. And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the LORD.” (Lamentations 3:15-18)

When you find yourself discouraged and depressed, you are not alone. Elijah, David, Jeremiah and many other godly people have been there too. But there is always a remedy. “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)

Next week, we will begin examining God’s Plan for Overcoming Depression.
