A Brief History of Light for Living.

Light for Living began as a writing ministry of Pastor Gary Click while pastoring the Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton, IN. His articles were published in the local newspaper, The Daily Clintonian. They were also distributed to email subscribers and several were posted on this website.

Shortly after assuming the pastorate of the Fremont Baptist Temple, Fremont, OH, he was approached by Pastor James Lewis and chief operator, Brian Benedict about providing a two thirty-minute Radio Programs for the weekend. (WHVT 90.5 fm) At this point, Pastor Click's writing ministry transformed into a radio ministry.

Due to time constrains, the weekly devotional gave way to the radio ministry. However, these devotionals are still available online through the Light for Living Archives.

Pastor Click is still active in writing bible studies, dramas and devotional articles for other applications. We hope to make those resources available soon.

Christian Rock IS NOT

To say "Christian Rock" is like saying "Pretty Ugly." Is an oxymoron. It can't be both.

Satan has a philosophy of deception that he has used over and over again. “Tell a lie long enough, loud enough and often enough and people will believe it.” His philosophy goes one step further, “The more outrageous the lie, the more likely people are to believe it.”

One of Satan’s grand schemes is to deceiving Christians is to convince them that they can do the Lord’s work with the Devil’s tools. “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” (2 Corinthians 11:14) Nowhere is this scheme more prevalent than in what is called Christian Rock.

Deception through music has been His plan for many ages. It did not just begin with Elvis, the Beatles, DC Talk or Audio Adrenaline. The first real head-banging music can be found in Exodus 32, when Moses and Joshua descended from the mountain with the Ten Commandments in hand. They thought it was the noise of war. They soon learned that it was Rock Music, dancing and idol worship that had drawn the people away from Jehovah.

“And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp. And he said, It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome: but the noise of them that sing do I hear.  And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.” (Exodus 32:17-19) Neither God nor the man of God was pleased.

Today, Satan tells the lie long and loud that you have to have Rock music to reach the next generation. “You have to be like the world to win the world.” The pragmatic philosophy of situational ethics abounds. But God’s Word says, “be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:2)

Just a quick glance at “Christian” Rock reveals that they are not separated from the world. The lead singer for the Christian group Newsboys (a group that started performing in bars) says that his spiritual leader is Ghandi. He believes that Ghandi got his philosophies from the Bible. P.O.D. (Payable on Death) is another “Christian” band that tries to blur the lines of distinction. This band was nominated for two Dove Awards this year. The July 2002 issue of Guitare Magazing features one of P.O.D.’s members, Morcos Curiel with Ozzy Osborn, the self proclaim Prince of Darkness. In a photo shoot these two appear with Daron Malkian, who is giving the finger to the camera and Zakk Wylde. In Wylde’s interview, he drops the F-bomb nine times in seven sentences while he talks incessantly about pounding beer. Is this the company a Christian keeps?

2 Corinthians 6:14 “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?” Amos 3:3 “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” 2 Corinthians 6:17 “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.”

Not only do they fail in the area of separation, but also in the area of content. CCM Magazine is noted for promoting Christian Rock. Yet even they criticize the “Christian” Rock group Bride for its ungodly lyrics. “The lyrics to the song ‘The Worm’ are particularly troubling, specifically the line, ‘Take my life before I take it myself.’” They go on to say that these words imply that Jesus would commit suicide. They continue to criticize another song “Tell Me”, because it implies that we must make ourselves worthy of Christ, rather than the biblical truth that salvation is a gift from God. CCM Magazine states that this song “misses the mark made by grace.”

Rolling Stone Magazine is not known for its love of God or moral purity. Yet they take the time to praise the “Christian” Rock band, Disciple. “Disciple plays the kind of hard rock that's like a 30-pound sledgehammer in the face. On By God, the band chugs through 19 tracks, unleashing a metal slugfest that's sure to slap hard rock fans silly.” I’m curious about how this fits in with the Fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.” (Galatians 5:22, 23)

Rolling Stone closes its review of one of these groups by saying that their music is “truly some holy sh*t.” However, I am prone to disagree. It’s not holy. Describing another of these bands they say, “Rarely has a band with such ferocity been blatantly sold out to God.” I would change “rarely” to Never.

I believe that Satan laughs with derision and such gullible Christians who believe that Rock music is a tool of God. With sneer on his face he chuckles, “These poor fools will believe anything.”  But God’s Word warns the wise Christian, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” (1 John 4:1)

“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.” (Proverbs 12:15)
