A Brief History of Light for Living.

Light for Living began as a writing ministry of Pastor Gary Click while pastoring the Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton, IN. His articles were published in the local newspaper, The Daily Clintonian. They were also distributed to email subscribers and several were posted on this website.

Shortly after assuming the pastorate of the Fremont Baptist Temple, Fremont, OH, he was approached by Pastor James Lewis and chief operator, Brian Benedict about providing a two thirty-minute Radio Programs for the weekend. (WHVT 90.5 fm) At this point, Pastor Click's writing ministry transformed into a radio ministry.

Due to time constrains, the weekly devotional gave way to the radio ministry. However, these devotionals are still available online through the Light for Living Archives.

Pastor Click is still active in writing bible studies, dramas and devotional articles for other applications. We hope to make those resources available soon.

An Attitude of Gratitude

If you are like me, there are some things in life that you are not naturally grateful for. You would just as soon do without those things in your life. They have been a thorn in your flesh, a burden on your back and a pain in the neck. The last thing you want to do is give thanks for them. But you ought to. That's right. Take the time to thank God for your biggest trouble this Thanksgiving.

"In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Did you notice the first three words to this verse of Scripture? I did. Let me be honest and say that that goes against my grain. There are some things that I don't want to be thankful for. If you are honest, you will likely agree with me. But as you read this verse you will learn that "this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning YOU." Not only is it the will of God, but it is the will of God concerning you. Yes it means you.

We have a tendency to think that we are the exception. But you are not. God wants you to be thankful in everything. He does not say that you are to be thankful for everything, but in everything. We can be thankful in every situation, because we know that God can and does bring good even out of the worst situations in our life. "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)

As I read the Scriptures, I notice that every great man or woman of God faced great trials and afflictions. When I think of Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Esther, Ruth, David, Daniel, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Mary, Peter, James, John, Paul I think of victorious Christians who faced affliction. Even our Lord and Savior, Jesus, was not exempt from afflictions. Consider this great truth: No great victory ever comes without a great struggle.

I remember a period in my life when it seemed that things were not working out according to plan. I was doing all that was in my power to make the situation right, but without success. I would lay awake at night and worry over it. Finally, I decided to thank God for what was happening. I said, "God thank you for these events. I know that you are in control and that you have a purpose in it for my life. Thank you for what you are teaching me." It wasn't long before my heart was filled with peace and God worked out the details. Through that process, I learned some lessons that stick with me today.

The Apostle Paul understood this process well. Listen to his personal experience as he praises God for his "thorn in the flesh." "For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." (1 Corinthians 12: 8,9)

Determine in your heart to have an Attitude of Gratitude this Thanksgiving.
