A Brief History of Light for Living.

Light for Living began as a writing ministry of Pastor Gary Click while pastoring the Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton, IN. His articles were published in the local newspaper, The Daily Clintonian. They were also distributed to email subscribers and several were posted on this website.

Shortly after assuming the pastorate of the Fremont Baptist Temple, Fremont, OH, he was approached by Pastor James Lewis and chief operator, Brian Benedict about providing a two thirty-minute Radio Programs for the weekend. (WHVT 90.5 fm) At this point, Pastor Click's writing ministry transformed into a radio ministry.

Due to time constrains, the weekly devotional gave way to the radio ministry. However, these devotionals are still available online through the Light for Living Archives.

Pastor Click is still active in writing bible studies, dramas and devotional articles for other applications. We hope to make those resources available soon.

Angelaphobia

Here is a new word for psychiatrists to add to their dictionary. It is the fear of angels. One of the earliest documented cases was recorded just outside first century Bethlehem.

“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.  And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.” (Luke 2:8-9)

Two forms of the Greek word phobos, from which we get the word  phobia appear side by side along with the Greek word megan. You might say they had mega fear upon fear. They had great fear or as our English translation aptly puts it, “they were sore afraid.”

These shepherds were just minding their own business, tending the flock when they had the most frightening experience of their life. But when you read the rest of the story you learn that their most frightening experience becomes their most enlightening experience. In the very next verse we see their fears beginning to subside.

“And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”

From there we find the shepherds traveling into the town of Bethlehem till they come to a stable and find the infant Savior lying in a manger. They were among the first to lay eyes upon Jesus and worship the newborn King.

A very simply lesson can be learned from the shepherds angelaphobia. God sometimes has a dramatic way of getting our attention. It can be frightening when He begins to work in our life and draw us unto Himself. For many, they first came to consider God’s place in their life in the midst of troubling and terrifying circumstances. Yet like the shepherds, they yielded to God’s call and found satisfaction for their souls and a peace for their hearts.

When God calls you unto Himself you need not be afraid. Simply trust in Him as your Lord and Savior and you too will know the genuine joy of Christmas.
