A Brief History of Light for Living. Light for Living began as a writing ministry of Pastor Gary Click while pastoring the Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton, IN. His articles were published in the local newspaper, The Daily Clintonian. They were also distributed to email subscribers and several were posted on this website. Shortly after assuming the pastorate of the Fremont Baptist Temple, Fremont, OH, he was approached by Pastor James Lewis and chief operator, Brian Benedict about providing a two thirty-minute Radio Programs for the weekend. (WHVT 90.5 fm) At this point, Pastor Click's writing ministry transformed into a radio ministry. Due to time constrains, the weekly devotional gave way to the radio ministry. However, these devotionals are still available online through the Light for Living Archives. Pastor Click is still active in writing bible studies, dramas and devotional articles for other applications. We hope to make those resources available soon. Click here to learn more about becoming a Christian. Listen to the "Light for Living" broadcast live on whvtfm.com Saturdays and Sundays at 4:00 pm.

The Aerodynamic Christian While taking my boys to school this week, we found ourselves discussing aerodynamics. I was pointing out the efforts that the large trucks go to in order to reduce the wind resistance to save on fuel and increase speed. I pointed out how racecar drivers will draft behind one another to gain an advantage. If you have ever observed some of the modern military jets, you may have noticed the needle like point at the front designed to pierce through the wind. To be aerodynamic means to reduce the effect of the wind. As
we discussed the concepts of wind
resistance, the Lord brought this
thought to mind: The Aerodynamic
Christian. Although that title may have
a nice ring to it, the aerodynamic
Christian is really the worst kind.
Anything that is aerodynamic is designed
to encounter the wind with the least
effect possible. However, when we think
of the wind in light of the Scriptures
we are compelled to think of the Holy
Spirit. Recall in Acts 2 how the Holy
Spirit made His appearance as the sound
of “a
rushing mighty wind.” The
Greek words translated as Holy Spirit or
Holy Ghost are “hagios pneuma.”
Hagios is holy. Pneuma is
translated as ghost, spirit or wind.
Pneumatic tools are wind powered. We
find the same word translated both ways
in John 8:38.
“The wind [pneuma] bloweth where it
listeth, and thou hearest the sound
thereof, but canst not tell whence it
cometh, and whither it goeth: so is
every one that is born of the Spirit [Pneuma].”
So the Aerodynamic Christian would be one who has ordered his life so as to be least effected by the Spirit of God. What a dangerous place to be. Why would a Christian not want the power and influence of the Holy Spirit in his/her life? Yet so many Christians attempt to streamline themselves so as to feel no conviction for sin or desire for righteousness. They remove those things that allow the “wind of the Spirit” to affect them. They develop excuses for not reading the bible. They allow themselves to be too busy for church. They avoid the company of the saints and they drive against the wind. Sadly, they find themselves making good time driving in the wrong direction. They are headed nowhere fast. In Acts 7:51, Stephen rebuked those who “always resist the Holy Ghost.” The wise Christian, however, seeks to have the wind at his back carrying him along. How much better it is to be carried along by His Spirit. The greatest example of this is given in 1 Peter 1:21. “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” You
and I have the opportunity and even the
command to “Walk
in the Spirit.” (Galatians
5:16) The wise Christian understands
that this is much easier and wiser to
walk in the Spirit than against the
Spirit. Think of how much better it is
to be a Pneumatic Christian than an
aerodynamic one. Be Spirit powered
rather than Spirit resistant. |
